Can you trademark a hairstyle?

No, you cannot trademark a hairstyle. You cannot trademark the specific design of a hairstyle. However, you can trademark a name, logo, or slogan that you use to market or promote your hairstyling services.

This information was provided by our founding attorney, Xavier Morales, Esq.

Additionally, if you were to create a logo that contains an image of the hairstyle, and if you were to use the logo to promote or sell your services, you could then trademark the logo. Trademarking a logo that contains a particular hairstyle will not protect the hairstyle from reproduction or imitation, but it will protect against competitors using a similar logo to promote or sell similar types of products or services.

If you would like to trademark a logo for your salon or a unique name for a hairstyle, contact us today for help with the trademark registration process.
