Megan Thee Stallion Trademarks

Megan Jovon Ruth Pete is an American rapper known professionally as “Megan Thee Stallion”. Born on February 15th, 1995 in Houston, Texas, she first gained attention by freestyle rapping on social media.

The rapper officially started her musical career by releasing SoundCloud-exclusive mixtapes in 2016 before making her solo debut with her first professional EP in 2017 – Make It Hot. This was followed by a second EP, Tina Snow in 2018 from which the single “Big Ole Freak” led to Stallion’s first-ever entry on the Billboard Hot 100. It was this that garnered Stallion national mainstream popularity in 2019.

Stallion signed with 300 Entertainment in 2018 and has since released two studio albums – Good News (2020) and Traumazine (2022). Both were very well received with Good News, in particular, being critically acclaimed and earning a spot in several year-end best album lists. The artist’s first No.1 song was when she was featured as part of a remix of Beyonce’s single “Savage” in 2020. Stallion then shortly earned her second No.1 by featuring on rapper Cardi B’s song, “WAP”.

Despite only having a short musical career so far, Megan Thee Stallion has already received many awards and accolades. These include six BET awards, five BET Hip Hop Awards, four American Music Awards, three Grammy Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and a Billboard Women in Music Award. She was also named part of Time magazine’s annual 100 most influential people in the world in 2020.

In July 2020, Megan Thee Stallion was the victim of a shooting in California. Rapper, Tory Lanez has been tried and convicted on all counts of the attack on her in December 2022. Outside of music, the artist has continued to work on her education, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration in 2021 from Texas Southern University.

Megan Thee Stallion HOTTIE SAUCE

The rapper most recently turned her talents to creating a hot sauce for the fast food chain, Popeyes. In October 2021, Stallion announced on her social media channels that she was launching her hot sauce at all Popeyes locations on 19th October. The limited edition sauce was named “Hottie Sauce” and also included collaboration merchandise like chicken-shaped dog toys and a flame-broiled bikini. Stallion and Popeyes also jointly donated six figures to the local Texas nonprofit, Houston Random Acts of Kindness. Stallion filed for the trademark “Megan Thee Stallion HOTTIE SAUCE” in October 2021 and is still pending, but if granted will apply to:

Traumazine

Wrapping up

Megan Thee Stallion has become an internationally recognized successful rapper, despite only being in the industry since 2019. Her presence on social media and ventures in other avenues has contributed to her fame and success as well.

Stallion clearly recognizes the importance of trademarking her assets and has already registered 57 trademarks with USPTO. Not only has she covered the basics of her stage name, album titles, and song titles, but she’s also trademarked her fanbase name, charitable arms, catchphrases, slogans, and products (such as her hot sauce brand).

Her trademarks are incredibly thorough in what they cover too, meaning that no competitors will be able to use the same wording themselves without the risk of a hefty legal battle. However, a lot of Megan Thee Stallion’s trademarks are still pending, most likely because a lot of them are quite common phrases that may be difficult to trademark, though the rapper is certainly on the right track by filing them straight away. As someone worth $8 million, she has a lot to gain from trademarking her assets.
